Shall We Dance? Earrings ©2014 by Cynthia Rutledge“Shall we dance?” were probably Fred Astaire’s most favorite three words! I have always considered Mr. Astaire (1899 – 1987) to be the best dancer that I have ever had the pleasure of watching. A dancer, choreographer, singer, musician and actor, his career lasted over 75 years! His dancing partners were many, including his sister, Adele, but the most famous partnership was with the beautiful Ginger Rodgers. These two amazing performers dazzled audiences with their charisma and chemistry on stage and film, and of course, they’re incredible dancing.

As I was designing these earrings I kept thinking that the technique was like dancing, around and around, and in perfect harmony with the materials. It didn’t hurt that I was watching Holiday Inn (1942)!

A peyote stitch bezel surrounds a Swarovski pearl and connects to the ear wires. Attached to the pearl bezel is a flat circular peyote stitch disc that is embellished with cup chain. This component adds movement and sparkle to this beautiful pair of earrings. When a plan comes together, beautifully, it does make you feel like doing the happy dance, so “Shall We Dance?”

Skill level: Intermediate.

Earrings are very light, 2 1/2" tall from top of ear wire to bottom of disc. Disc is 1" wide.
